PROLOGUE IN VIENNA

June 12-16, 2018

The course will begin in Vienna, one of Europe’s prime destinations for art and culture. We will be there during the time of the annual Vienna Festival, featuring internationally renowned contemporary stage works, musical performances, and lectures.  We will tour Vienna's museums and discuss these important painting collections as they pertain to aspects of color, light, and landscape.  These are the key notions we will be exploring while painting in the studio space at the Goldegg castle.

While touring the museums in Vienna is a kind of prologue to the class, it is not mandatory.  Time permitting, there will be visits to museum exhibitions, contemporary galleries and perhaps even artists’ studios.

It is possible to attend the Vienna tour without joining the painting class in Goldegg; some people (including non-artists) will want to come along to see and discuss the city's treasures and enjoy the world famous cafés and restaurants.

Venues in Vienna will include but not be limited to:

Kunsthistorisches Museum

Collection including Titian, Veronese, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velázquez, van Eyck, Bosch, Vermeer, and Rembrandt.

Albertina Museum
